World Supersport win for Eugene Laverty Print E-mail

Eugene Laverty - photo by Mike EvansEugene Laverty continued his impressive run to take the win and pick up valuable points in his battle with Kenan Sofuoglu for the World Supersport title.

Laverty got a great start from pole and took the lead with Gina Rea tucking in behind him in 2nd place. Kenan Sofuoglu dropped behind Broc Parkes before passing him half way through the first lap. Broc Parkes was making a return to the World Supersport paddock as a replacement for the injured Joan Lascorz on the Kawasaki. Parkes was passed on lap 4 by his team mate Fujiwara.

Gino Rea continues to impress in the series after clinching his first podium at the last round at Silverstone, the young British rider stuck with Eugene Laverty for the entire race really giving the Irish man something to think about.

Kenan Sofuoglu stuck with the front two for most of the race before dropping off in the closing stages of the race having to settle for 3rd 5seconds adrift of the front two.

Behind the front 3 team mates Parkes and Fujiwara did battle with Fabien Foret for 4th place with Parkes getting the better of them after Fujiwara crashed with 9 laps remaining with Foret coming home 5th with Chaz Davies 6th on his triumph.

In the end it was close run thing with Laverty crossing the line just 0.058 seconds ahead of Rea. This result closes the gap at the top of the table to just 8 points with Sofuoglu on 219 and Laverty 211 with just 2 rounds remaining in the championship.  by Mike Evans Girlracer magazine
