Tom is far from 'board' with BTCC Print E-mail

Tom Boardman (photo by Marc Waller)It has definitely been a year of ups and downs for Special Tuning Racing star, Tom Boardman. A birthday boy this weekend, Tom will not doubt have blown out his candles wishing hard for a little more luck to fall his teams way.

There is no doubt that Tom is a talented racer, but a series of unfortunate incidents, from his car being dropped off a low-loader in Croft to tyre trouble at Brands, have hampered him form showing his true potential.

The Lancashire lad would be forgiven for waking-up most post-race Mondays thinking, 'why me?!'

Luckily pessimism isn't a word that features in Tom's vocabulary. A positive, 'onwards and upwards' attitude to his season finally paid dividends at Knockhill with a maiden win. Although even this wasn't straight-forward, with an investigation hanging over him until Knockhill. Despite this, unsurprisingly, Tom ranks the win as his best moment of 2011 so far.

"The win was amazing, it felt great to be able to pay back the team for all the hard work they've put in. The guys at Special Tuning are some of the best in the paddock and that weekend everything just came together.

"It's been tough to bring the fight to the likes of Honda and Chevrolet but I'm delighted that we've got our first win and hope there's more to come."

"What we would love for next year is for someone to give us a big pot of money so we can build an NGTC-spec car. I'm very happy racing in the BTCC, the weekend's are great, challenging, and the support from fans has been fantastic but what we want above anything, in whatever series we race is to be competitive.

"I think for the British Touring Car Championship in 2012 competitive is going to mean running an NGTC car."

We'll stay tuned for announcements on Tom's future but one thing's for sure, if Boardman is in a car he'll be giving it his all, luck or no luck... By Samantha Wilcox, Photos by Marc Waller

Hi Sam, when Tom said about having enough money to build a NGTC car... I thought the NGTC thing was meant to bring down the cost. How much do teams normaly spend and how much do they think it'll cost to produce a NGTC car? What exactly is NGTC?
