Formula 3 Euro Series He has firmly set his sights on the championship: Volkswagen driver Jean Karl Vernay (Team Signature) safeguarded his chances of winning the title in the Formula 3 Euro Series by taking places seven and two at the Norisring. The 21-year-old Frenchman is ranking third in the overall standings. His team-mate Tiago Geronimi (BR) crossed the finish line in fifth place on Sunday, won the rookie classification for the first time and scored his first championship points. Four races, four victories: Maciek Steinhof remains the dominant man in the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup. At the Nuremberg Norisring the 23-year-old Pole celebrated his fourth consecutive victory of the season in front of Maximilian Sandritter (Raubling) and rookie Maximilian Hackländer (Rüthen). “Local heroes” Elia Erhart (Röttenbach) and Ferenc Nagy (Nuremberg) took places four and seven. Volkswagen is setting the pace at the Rallye dos Sertõs in Brazil which the brand uses to prepare for the “Dakar”. On the demanding off-road tracks a Race Touareg has clinched all four of the stage wins that have been possible so far. The new team member Nasser Al-Attiyah (Q) and his German co-driver Timo Gottschalk were the winners of the special stage classifications twice. These results also give them the overall lead – of 1m 27.3s - ahead of the Spaniards Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz Senra who were successful two times as well. The local heroes Maurício Neves/Eduardo Bampi (BR/BR) who are competing in the “Dakar” winning car for the first time are ranking eighth overall after four of ten legs. Patrik Olsson (S) had a successful weekend at the fourth round of the Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) at Knutstorp. In the second race the Volkswagen driver in his Biogas-Scirocco overtook three rivals on the final laps and finished eighth, scoring his first championship point. His team-mate and countryman Fredrik Ekblom suffered the misfortune of being entangled in two crashes through no fault of his own. By clinching places five and three at the Swedish Junior Touring Car (JTCC) round at Knutstorp Christoffer Graff (S) in the Volkswagen Golf defended his lead in the standings. However, he is now separated by just one point from his brand colleague Niclas Olsson (S), who mounted the podium – with positions three and two – as many as two times at the season’s fourth event. In 2008, Olsson was still contesting the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup in Germany. With a victory and a second-place finish Devin Robertson was the winner of the Polo Cup South Africa’s round at the former Formula 1 circuit at Kyalami. By clinching these results he also took the lead in the standings from Mathew Hodges, who finished in fifth and second places. Victory in the second race at Kyalami went to Bryan Morgan. The race winners at the action-packed visit of the Formula Volkswagen South Africa at Kyalami were Tasmin Pepper and Wesleigh Orr. The man of the weekend, though, was Jimmy Auby, who – after problems in qualifying – had to start both rounds all the way at the back of the field but then finished twice as the runner-up after a phenomenal showing. www.girlracer.co.uk
