Honda Xtreme Academy junior championship The United Kingdom is to become the first European country to finalise details for a Honda Xtreme Academy junior championship for 11-15-year-olds.

The Xtreme Academy was announced last December with young riders signing up to the European programme that is seen as a potential first step on the ladder to becoming part of Honda Racing's World Championship Xtreme programme in MX1, MX2, Enduro and even the Dakar Rally. Honda has announced that its 2010 Xtreme Academy series will run alongside the British Youth Motocross championship, which also carries Junior, Small Wheel, Big Wheel and Youth Open categories.

The Xtreme Academy prize fund will offer the series winner £1000 worth of vouchers that can be exchanged for goods and services at their local Honda dealer. Second and third placed riders will receive £500 and £250 worth of vouchers respectively.

Every Xtreme Academy competitor will also benefit directly from the involvement of Hondaʼs series sponsors, to be announced soon, and get exclusive access to experts such as John van den Berk, a double MX world champion who now runs a successful rider training business around Europe.

Van den Berk will be attending at least one Xtreme Academy event in each participating country when he will pass on advice regarding training, nutrition and riding techniques.

Additionally each rider who registers for the series will be eligible for a 25% discount on the Dutchmanʼs training school.

“Itʼs great to see Honda companies in key European markets backing the Xtreme Academy,” said Honda Europeʼs off-road racing manager, Roger Harvey. “Iʼm sure weʼll see some great young riders coming through this UK series, some of whom will also be contesting the European championship which carries a substantial prize fund.”
Honda (UK)ʼs racing manager, Neil Tuxworth, commented: “We have long held the belief that investment in youth will pay dividends in the longer term, so we are delighted to announce these Honda Xtreme Academy UK dates.” www.girlracer.co.uk
