| Don’t change the system! Getting our heads around Moto2 |

The 250cc MotoGP class is no more, and in its place has appeared this new and mysterious Moto2. So what’s that all about then? Moto2 is basically a new four-stroke class in the MotoGP World Championship, and it’s meant to be a lot more cost-effective than its predecessor. With a single engine supplier (Honda Racing Corporation) and a single tyre supplier (Dunlop), it’s all about keeping the budget to a minimum. Electronic systems will be much more limited, with data loggers and transponders permitted. But as far as gadgets go, that’s all that’s allowed, and the budget’s been set to 650 Euros. As far as riders go, this new addition to the madness of the MotoGP circus almost bagged Bradley Smith for its inaugural season. But the 18-year-old whizz kid has decided to stay at his race-winning Aspar Aprillia team in the 125 class for this coming season, aspiring to be the first British champion since Barry Sheene back in 1977. The official championship entry list will be announced shortly. It’s always strange when change rears its head, but sometimes a bit of a shake-up is needed. Maybe Moto2 will take off and maybe it won’t – but it will be interesting to find out. The season starts in Qatar on April 11. Bev Rimmer www.girlracer.co.uk
