Bahrain Blog: the adventure begins at last

So here I am at the airport, ready to start this racing adventure.

The lounge is filling up, and I'm keeping an eye out for F1 faces, but I think most of them are already in the desert. There's a big bank of reserved seating right next to the gate, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed Ross Brawn will sit down there soon, fresh from his appointment with the Queen.

I think it will probably end up being reserved for young families and the elderly, but I'm going to keep dreaming of the elder statesmen of Formula 1.

Travelling so far has been pretty smooth, but all I've had to do is get from Oxford to Heathrow. There was a mini-drama at the airport when the retractable handle on my suitcase refused to retract, but the lovely folks at Qatar Airways have agreed to take it anyway. Here's hoping I get the suitcase back in one piece after its journey!

It was a massive relief to discover that my too cheap to be real e-ticket was accepted by the check-in people, as a small part of me was worried I'd been ripped off, and I now have a real boarding card. Phew! Buying a replacement ticket at the last minute would have cost a bob or two...

Not much to report yet, except that if you want some serious Bahrain envy you should check out the various F1 Twitter feeds. There have been endless posts of photos from the circuit, and the BBC lot seem to have a penchant for posing in front of palm trees. When I get to Sakhir tomorrow morning, I will find myself a palm tree to pose in front of and send you the picture.

Signing off now, as I want to get this posted before they start boarding and I lose my internet access for the next eight hours, but girlracer is officially en route to the first Grand Prix of the season. Follow me every step of the way! Kate Walker Girlracer Magazine http://www.girlracer.co.uk
