Because he’s mad. Absolutely potty, in the best sort of way. The 2009 return of Formula 1 to the BBC gave us the oddly-trousered, pink-shoed Irishman and his off-the-wall predictions. Eddie Jordan certainly enlivened the pre-race coverage, running off camera with a mad look in his eye, only to return with a bit of suspension (or similar).

I don’t think a single one of Eddie’s 2009 predictions came true, although the law of averages states he had to be right at least some of the time!

Mr Jordan isn’t universally loved by F1 fans, and a quick Google of his name shows that more people seem to want him off the Beeb than enjoy him on it! Ah well – I thought that his madcap antics made the occasional 5am start more amusing than 5am has any right to be.
If rumours are true, he’s also not the most popular man in the pits. A former F1 mechanic told GrandPrixDiary that the crews were using their engines as weapons, revving them whenever the Irishman was within earshot and not paying attention. ‘The boys have been driven to distraction by Eddie’s inane and confused ramblings and when he decided to start involving himself in technical matters we just had to stop him.’
