My team-mate James and I are driving 10,000miles from
Hyde Park in London, to the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar
(1/3 of the way around the earth!). 200 teams are taking
part on the Rally this year, but only around half will
make it! (some will not even make it to Dover!)

The Rally's aims are to give people a challenge and
make lots of money for charity! The only real specifications
on entering the rally have been that the car has no
more than a 1ltr engine, and is prefferably a hunk of
junk.
The Rally organisers offer no support to the teams
when they go...so basically if we are chased by bandits,
break down in a dessert, or fall off a mountain there
is no one to call! That is part of the challenge..you
really are on your own!
In theory it should take around 3 weeks hard driving
to get to Mongolia, but this is only if you do not encounter
any major problems with the car, or get accosted for
no reason by the Russian police!
As you are free to chose your route to Mongolia, James
and I are taking a middleish kind of approach. After
Europe we are travelling through Russia, (twice) Kazakhstan
(twice), Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan then finally ending
in Mongolia!
