| I am a 19 year old female,
originally from Trowbridge, Wiltshire. I am currently
studying Marketing at Oxford Brookes University. I attended
The John Of Gaunt School in Trowbridge, then later moved
to Ralph Allen School in Bath to study my A-levels.
I have always been involved with sport, representing
my school and Wiltshire regularly for sports such as
Hockey and Athletics. I was also part of Trowbridge
Ladies rugby team, and represented the South West of
England. In addition to this, i have taken part in schemes
such as young enterprise, and Duke of Edinburgh.
Oxford Brookes Motor club and the introduction to
new friends and new opportunities has primarily got
me involved with rallying and I now spend many weekends
away from home and university servicing for MWRT, a
rally team with two rally cars competing in both the
Fiesta ST Championship, and the South West Championship.
This has helped me learn more about the cars, the
sport and the people involved.
Introduction
The BTRDA, one of the biggest names in UK motorsport
chose me as one of their top ten drivers in the country
to compete for a full season of motorsport. The scheme
is called BTRDA Drive, and aims to bring new people
into the sport by making it more accessible.
I came 2nd overall and left feeling bitterly disappointed.
But, determined as ever, saved enough money to fund
buying and building myself a rally car.
I chose a Nissan Micra, and recruited the help of
engineering friends from university to help me prepare
it for the challenges it will face.
The car will compete on Special Stage Rallies- rallies
that are both on tarmac and gravel surfaces which tests
driver ability with emphasis on the preparation of the
car. I’m also competing in the BTRDA Autosolo
Newcomers challenge.
Motorsport is a popular, well attended form of socialising
and competing, and events are held most weekends all
over the country and have large following of supporters
and media.
Through the BTRDA and Motorsport news, I have had large
media coverage and support, and have been guaranteed
much more for the future. Both these very large organisations
are extremely influential in the motoring world, and
Motorsport news alone has a net circulation of over
21,000 people an issue.
