Mean Street September 2005

The special Girlracer night went down a storm at Arena Essex thanks to encouragement from Malcolm the man-with-the-microphone, top drifter and wind-up merchant extraordinaire who promoted GR big stylie on the night! Good man!

As well as the standard timed lap events, wicked drifting and burnouts we were treated to Malcolm’s crazy mate Steve ‘The Suicidal Starlet’ going round the track sideways at every opportunity. Malcolm was brave enough to stand in the middle of the track and dodge this guy doing mental donuts but then as a finale, jumped onto the door ledge with the passenger door open whilst the car was still moving. Bloomin’ eck!

The GR posse seemed to be a little shy to get down onto the track for the Show ‘n’ Shine so me and Fay (Miss Sly) jumped into my Lupo GTI and gave it some around the track with a cheeky wheel spin number to try and keep in the competition and gain support from the crowd. Well it worked for a while. I think the lack of lambo doors, sparkly paint and perhaps unwilling to whip out our bazookas didn’t help.

We were all in fits of laughter to see a white Ford Transit Van in the line up for the Show ‘n’ Shine - you can just imagine this being developed over several pints down the local. Apparently it had been fitted with a Cossie engine and dump valve(!) Thank God my Lupo GTI stayed in longer than the Transit, otherwise I would never have lived that one down.

Our Dunlop giveaways and prize draw in the GR marquee pulled in the punters whilst Gail (Mad Bitch Racer) was very smug that her new yellow and black Dunlop flag matched the colour scheme of her yellow banana! Could this be the newly adopted Dunlop sponsored mascot? Or was that Gem’s dog Millie-high-on-Haribo who wore fetching Dunlop bunting for the whole evening?!

Some of the hardcore GR lot stayed right til the end whilst others who perhaps had more sense left early to get an early night, ready for Trax the following morning. Thanks must go to the Mean Street Cruise Team for making it yet another fun and successful evening!
