The
Mean Street Cruise at Arena Essex on Saturday 7 May
was my first ever Girlracer event. It may have been
deceptively sunny but my God was it frrrreeeezing, forget
sunburn, try windburn, it’s just as effective!
GR stole the limelight by taking its usual
place high above the oval track with everyone’s
shiny modded cars on show including Gem’s Escort
XR3i Cabriolet, Tiny’s Smart, Stu’s Golf
Cabriolet, Rachel’s Golf with massive fab Audi
rims and my Lupo GTi. Amy’s lime green ridiculously
low Pug pulled in the crowds, so much so that it went
on to win the ‘Show ‘N’ Shine’
event. We think it was the balloons she tied to the
rear spoiler that swung it for her. Congrats Amy!
The hardcore ‘Max Power’ boyracers hung
out in the paddock and competed in their own personal
sound-offs. Sparkly two-tone paint and gullwing doors
are definitely in. The craziest car must have been a
Nissan Almera with a 23½ carat Gold engine –
Gaz says this mad bloke won a trophy at HIN. Completely
impractical, but you’ve gotta love it. Imagine
the endless cleaning……………
The track was busy with some mental drifting, especially
from a guy in a Ford Sierra who was adamant that canning
it around the track at break-neck speed was the best
way to wreck the tyres for a spectacular blow out finale.
Thanks must go to Stu for being the perfect wife and
making us all endless cups of tea to keep warm!
Look out for the special Mean Street Cruise Girlracer
night at Arena Essex in September. Hopefully I’ll
meet some new and old faces there!
