Each time I go to the Jap Meet at Bluewater I always
see another new car I’ve not spotted before.
Sometimes there’s something a little special
that catches my eye like the Honda NSX, and this time
it was a modded and nitroused Toyota Supra with what
the fit fellow baseball capped Chavster claimed had
a total of up to 500bhp. Unfortunately on the way
to testing his theory at Santa Pod recently, the turbo
gave up. This Supra had enough blue neons to guide
down the 10.10pm BA flight from Tenerife, but looked
pretty cool at night.
Tiny and Stu turned up for a good gander and Tiny
not only demonstrated his photographic skills but
also his lamppost climbing ability – all in
the aim of a good photo. You have to admit his night
time shots are really fab, making Bluewater car park
as a backdrop more like a scene from a sci-fi movie.
Kieran looked like he was starting up a ‘bring
and buy’ sale over the boot of his Nissan Silvia
S15 much to the amusement of his Nissan 200 pose,
but he was actually just showing off the latest parts
he’d bought including a set of coilovers, boost
controller and front mounted intercooler. This altogether
would give a guaranteed engine performance increase
of 50-80 bhp, but currently not worth much still in
their pretty boxes. Kieran’s Silvia had also
just come back from a three-week holiday at Collins
Performance with a huge shiny turbo custom exhaust
and very little spare change.
Now I’d be the first to admit I knew nothing
about Jap cars until my current twice-monthly fixes,
but crikey how you pick stuff up quick. And these
cars really fly, you can do so much modding to a turbo
Jap motor and I have so much respect now for these
guys. Just a shame I can’t keep up with them
in my lil’ Lupo. Sickens me slightly that for
the same wonga I paid for my GTi lump, I could have
bought a second-hand 300bhp Supra. But, you’ll
just have to wait ‘til I get my car tuned later
this year, then I’ll give them a run for their
money on the track! Watch this space……..
