What a contrast to go from a Chavalanche hardcore
weekend of in ya face modified pick ‘n’
mix madness at the Fast and Furious Show in Brighton,
to a grown-up, Big Boy’s toys Japanese car meet
at Bluewater. And, there was not a gullwing door or
sparkly two-tone paint job in sight – in fact
not even a half naked glamour model come to think
of it.
The Jap Meet happens every other Tuesday and is probably
one of the largest unofficial regular meets in the
Kent area, attracting on average at least 40 shiny
pride-and-joys at each get-together and even some
extremely rare motors such as the mid-engined V6 Honda
NSX that I clocked on this occasion. Crikey, the last
time I saw one of these it was as a poster on my bedroom
wall about ten years ago and this was the first one
I’d ever seen in the metal. It’s crazy
to think that the NSX was around £70k brand
new and this fine example is still worth £27k
today.
Now this meet is all about performance mods rather
than extreme maxed up bodykits. Don’t get me
wrong; these guys still know how to make your head
turn with thunderous burbling sports exhausts and
slick slammed to the floor styling. Take Jimbo’s
car for example, a monster of a Nissan 200SX S14a,
modified from a standard 2-litre turbo jobby with
197bhp to a boosted 280bhp. It just shows what an
Apex Induction Kit, Blitz Dump Valve and Horsham Development
Chip can do. Believe me, this gawjus example leaves
many a thing weeping including Skyline GTRs.
I was so spoilt for choice that I had to take a Krispy
Kremes donut break, what with a mob of MX-5s and a
swarm of MR2s, more 200SXs, mean looking Civic Type
Rs, Scoobies, Skyline GTRs and a lonesome Toyota Supra.
Imagine putting these up against each other on the
strip at Santa Pod - now that I would like to see!
Sorry Jimbo, my bet is still on the Supra cos’
I’ve seen the God of the Pod tangoed Supra tear
up that track.
So, if you’re allowed out to play on a Tuesday
evening and would like to mingle with the Big Boys
and their mighty toys, (Ahem!) get your arse down
to Bluewater, it’ll be well worth it. Next meet
is 28 June.
