| Name:
Kim Minshaw AKA Daisy, Burlee, Raikkonen
Location: Falmouth, Cornwall
Sport: Snowboarding
Occupation: Snowboard bum/Sales assistant
in a surf shop.
Years riding: 3
Resorts Ridden: Tignes France, Fernie
BC Canada, Lake Louise AB Canada, Kimberley BC Canada,
Big Mountain MT USA.
Hours a day spent obsessing about snowboarding:
Approx 14, other ten are spent sleeping.
Other interests: Wakeboarding, Long boarding (skate),
Crochet and long walks on the beach.
Snowboarding History: The story so
far. I’d always loved the idea of snowboarding,
after many skiing holidays wanting to try it, and going
out with a guy who was a bit good (like really really
really good) at snowboarding I ventured to Tignes for
a week to get to grips with sliding sideways. I was
addicted…straight up, nothing was better! So I
booked myself on a Nonstopski course in Fernie BC Canada.
After 11 weeks of intensive tuition from some of the
best instructors in Canada, I was a fully qualified
CASI snowboard instructor, 1000 times better at riding,
and even more obsessed with snowboarding than ever!
After a fun summer living and working in Falmouth Cornwall,
I headed back out to Fernie for another season. The
snow could have been better, but the people and some
sick dumps of snow towards the end of the season made
it an even better season than my first. Words cannot
describe the feeling you get at the top of an untouched
run with your friends on a powder day, strapping in
and “giver”! I’m gutted this winter
as I cannot go away (tiny violins play), another season
away without working isn’t possible, and visas
for the States and Canada aren’t available. However,
all is not lost, I am saving my butt off right now,
and the future is in sight, because the plan is to head
over to New Zealand, and do a season there next year
June – October! Bring it on!
Anything else: My obsession is snowboarding,
and my whole family is obsessed by motor sport which
is kind of ironic bearing this website in mind. My Dad
used to own Demon Tweeks until he sold it last summer
(2004), I even used to be one of the lolly dolly girls
for the British Touring Cars! They all sit around and
talk about cars and racing…none of which I fully
understand. My brothers constantly ask me...when are
you going to get a real job, and get with the real world?
I just smile and reply, I am in the real world, it’s
just a different real world to normal people. To me
it’s a world in which at the moment I am extremely
happy, enjoying every moment that is given to me, and
doing something that without it my life would be incomplete,
and I have made my best friends. Life is for living…right?
So at a normal family meal they all talk about motor
racing, I just sit quietly at the end of the table dreaming
about the next time I will head up to the mountains,
strap into my board and shred.
