| Snetterton was the host of Round 2
of the Ginetta Club Championship at the May Bank Holiday
weekend.
The sun shone gloriously from dawn ‘til dusk
and this certainly drew the crowds to the Norfolk circuit
for the BRSCC race day.
Sarah had a good qualifying session and qualified
fourth, just 1.1 seconds off of the pole setting time
of Stuart Pearson and 0.2 seconds from Paul Morgan in
3rd place ahead of her.
Sarah got off to a good start in Race 1 and retained
her position of fourth from the start with Pearson,
Giles Dawson and Morgan in front. The top three started
to pull away but Sarah kept them in sight. Then, on
lap 9, Morgan made a mistake and fell in Sarah’s
grasp. Morgan just managed to keep ahead of Sarah though,
finishing 3rd to Sarah’s 4th place by only 1.3
seconds, the pair being just 10 seconds behind the winner
of the race, Dawson and some 30 seconds ahead of 5th
place Paul Trowbridge.
Sarah commented after the race ‘I’m pleased
with the result but also very frustrated to be so close
to a podium finish! I just couldn’t quite get
close enough to Paul on the straight to get a tow to
enable me to be close enough to make a move at the esses.’
Race two and Sarah this time started from 3rd on the
grid. Another good start saw Sarah retaining 3rd place
into the first corner. This time, she held on to Pearson
and Dawson ahead of her but Morgan was fast approaching
from the rear. After getting a tow from Sarah on the
straight, he slipped past her at the esses to take 3rd
place. Sarah then pursued Morgan for the rest of the
race, the pair also pulling in the two leaders until
on lap 11, Sarah tried a little too hard coming out
of the last chicane! She broke hard coming into the
corner and got the power on too quickly coming out,
with the inevitable spin that followed. Morgan managed
to get away as a result and Sarah pushed hard but simply
couldn’t make up for that mistake and, once again,
finished 4th.
Sarah reflected after the race ‘I’m really
mad with myself for the spin. I was probably getting
a little frustrated that I just couldn’t quite
get close enough to Paul to do anything about that elusive
podium spot!! However, I’ve got to go away from
today feeling positive. The car was great thanks to
the guys at Reflex Racing, I was fast all weekend and
getting faster. I just need to chip away a little more
and I’m sure that that podium spot will happen
soon!’
