Rounds 13 and 14 of the UEC European BMX Racing Series took place at the International track at Cheddar.

Considered as the last warm up event before the European Championships in Denmark on 10 -12 July, all the European BMX stars were present – including Girlracer’s favourite BMX racer 13 year old Izzy Ferrada. Once again, Izzy was the ‘baby’ of the Group as the race class was for 13/14 year old girls.

On the Saturday, Round 13 took place and AlansBMX.com rider Izzy won 2 of her Motos and was 2nd in the other. …but come the Final, Izzy was on fire! Not the quickest out of the gate, she carried out a breathtaking move on the first corner to take the lead. The video of the move is a lesson in BMX racecraft! Izzy pushed all the way to win her first ever European race!

Round 14 on the Sunday, saw her crash in her first Moto…at the same corner where she took the lead the day before! From Hero to Zero! She could hear hissing coming from the front tyre as she got up…’the front just let go…I wasn’t doing anything unusual’ she said afterwards. Whether it caused the crash or not, she fell very hard and even cracked her knee pads. With a punctured tyre, she retired. In the next 2 Motos, she was 2nd in each. In the Final, still very sore, Izzy was squeezed out on the first straight but was able to fight back to 4th.

With one win and a 4th place, Izzy was pleased with her weekend. She is now on a high and looking forward to Denmark. She is realistic about her chances as local riders will have a definite advantage. If she can get through all her Motos in the top 4 and qualify for the Final – well anything can happen! She will also be the only 13 year old girl representing Great Britain. So, no pressure then Izzy! www.girlracer.co.uk
