Valerie is not only new to the Girlracer BMX team, she’s new to racing. She began BMX when the Manchester track was built at Platt Fields in 2008, with 2009 being her first full race season.
In the eight months she’s been competing, Valerie has already established herself as a real talent and a rider to watch for the future!
Aged just 11, Valerie is third in the National Series in her age group and has a perfect record in the North Region Summer Series, winning every round she has entered. This will see her earn the #1 race plate for the British Championships in Cheddar in September, a track she knows well after competing in two rounds of the European BMX Series held there in June. Round 14 of the Euros saw Valerie take an excellent 3rd place, her smile certainly lit up the podium!
Valerie is a regular at the Manchester track, living a stone’s throw away, she is there most days perfecting her skills. She is also on hand to encourage new riders of all ages and is a real asset to Manchester BMX Club.
She got her start in racing when visiting the skatepark next to the newly built track, after asking how much it was to try out, Valerie was hooked and hasn’t looked back!
Listing her favourite tracks as a tie between Crewe, Coppull and Manchester, Valerie is readily absorbing everything she can in BMX as she states her goals are to be a World and Olympic Champion!
Lofty goals, but perhaps attainable for a rider already nicknamed “The Next Shanaze Reade.”
