I've had an interest in cars and motor sport for as long as I can remember, I grew up spending many a weekend with my dad when he was tinkering with his old cars or watching the F1 Grand Prix and World Rally Championship on the TV so it's no surprise that I have such a passion for what I do. After being fortunate enough to have a few runs down a rally stage, one of which was in the legendary Metro 6R4, I knew I couldn't hold back any longer!
2009 was my first year in the navigators seat. My main goal was just to sink my teeth into it and get as much experience as possible. I would never have expected to have the first season that I did! I have competed in both gravel and tarmac rallies with a string of top 25 finishes. My first season has resulted in me being the highest point scoring co-driver overall in my club, highest point scoring co-driver on tarmac with the club and top lady in the club (Aberdeen & District MC). My first ever gravel rally saw me finish first in class and my first rally with my second motor club (Craven MC) ended with my driver and myself being named the top Craven MC finishing crew.
I love what I do and there's no other thrill like it on the planet! For the driver and co-driver it really is a joint effort at any event and the work from the service crew really make all the difference too! Imagine driving a car flat-out at high speeds and the person sitting beside you tells you to keep your foot firmly on the accelerator over a crest and into a blind corner 50 meter's ahead! That's trust, and exactly the type of relationship a driver and co-driver have in a rally car. Co-drivers are very much the unsung heroes in the world of rallying and, although reading pace notes is only part of their complex mobile "office job", this is one of the most critical elements which determines whether the crew stay in contention or off the road and into retirement.
