Rebecca KirvanMy name is Becky Kirvan and I'm a rally driver from East Yorkshire.

I've been interested in cars and driving for as long as I can remember - when I was young it was so frustrating having to wait until I was 17 and allowed to drive properly, however once I reached that milestone I was straight out onto the road!

After many years watching rallying on the television I got my first real taste of the sport in 2001 when I did a one day rally driving course as a birthday present. After a day spent power-sliding and handbraking a Mk II Escort around in the gravel, I immediately caught the rally bug and made it my mission to somehow get properly involved in the sport! I started off by doing a bit of marshalling at various forest rallies which was a great way to learn more about the sport and to meet more like-minded people, but my real chance came in 2006 when I entered the national Lady Quest rally driving competition and, after a lengthy assessment process, I was lucky enough to win!

The Lady Quest scholarship prize was a series of events in an MG ZR rally car, beginning with the very tough Lombard Rally in October 2006, a real baptism of fire with four days (and nights!) of competition all over the country. I went on to complete in 4 more forest rallies in 2007 which was enough events to qualify for my National A competition licence which enabled me to end my Lady Quest scholarship with the prestigious Swansea Bay rally. My time in the little ZR finished on a high when I won my class in Swansea.

Since then I have spent time developing my own rally car, a VW Polo 1400, and also helping to build up a rally car hire business, Rally4Real.com. I am planning a full return to competition in 2010 when I will contest several rounds of the national BTRDA rally championship which takes place all over England and Wales.

Alongside competing I like to get involved in other aspects of the sport – I've modelled for several charity rally calendars and I've also exhibited at various motor shows as part of the Girlracer organisation with the aim of encouraging more women into the sport. At the shows I am able to share my great passion for rallying, give extra exposure to my sponsors and supporters and, of course, show off my beloved Polo!

When I'm not at work or out rallying, music plays a big part of my life. I studied music at university with the bassoon being my speciality. I now play in a wind trio performing at various events and I am also a soprano soloist, singing at weddings and concerts – I am available for bookings!
